GUEST PROFESSOR AT HfMDK:
KOKA NIKOLADZE
Following Brian Ferneyhough and Lucia Ronchetti, the artist, composer, technologist, multi-instrumentalist and instrument inventor Koka Nikoladze was appointed to the HfMDK as a visiting professor of composition for 2022/23. The HfMDK deliberately chose Nikoladze not as a composer in the “conventional” sense, but as an inventor and innovator at the intersection of the various disciplines. He often succeeds in building bridges via self-developed technologies and his own interfaces.
Koka Nikoladze, born 1989 in Tbilisi, is a composer, technologist, multi-instrumentalist, tinkerer and instrument inventor. His beat machines – small percussion instruments made from everyday objects – open up interdisciplinary sound spaces. He teaches music technology and live electronics as an associate professor at the Norwegian Academy of Music and was appointed visiting professor of composition at the HfMDK in 2022/23.
