CODA

A short documentary film on the subject of the two-class society.

GIVE MORE — GIVE UP

Footage of current and old youth cycling races allows at first to capture winners and losers and then to examine the space in between. The images focus is on what happens in the back of the peloton before, during and after a sport event. Far behind the short-term shiny surface of victory begins the world of mistake, misfortune, elimination, abandonment, excuse.
The different semantics of success and defeat are drawn through the words of my father – I was involved in youth racing myself in the 90s. Situations, details and anecdotes are told by him as he perceived them. Some visual parallels are drawn with the pictures shot in the present, sometimes ironically, sometimes dramatically. Questions start to take shape, especially regarding the space between “to give more” and “to give up”.
